Community Episode Reviews!

Please note I haven't watched the show in maybe 3 years at time of writing (March 9th 2025), these are based on my memories of watching these episodes

S

• Geothermal Escapism - Another really really obvious one, but as a season 5 everyone goes insane episode, this one is kinda perfect, probably community at it's best.
• Modern Espionage - Yeah No Surpise this one takes of the top spots. Most fun, best use of the Greendale is changing motif, probably the one place where that arc doesn't feel a bit forced. Honestly the least forced episode this season.
• Cooperative Polyography - The other best episode, really funny, a solid finale for pierces weird danganronpa rival/manipulating everyone schtick, while also being oddly heartfelt. You can tell they got a bit annoyed at Chevy near the end but yeah, good.

A

• Advanced Dungeons and Dragons - I don't actually like Neal still being at the college (didn't he graduate), but if there's a reason to bring him back it's this. A really good community episode.
• Lawnmower Maintenance and Post Care - Listen it has the And Jesus Wept Stuff, it has to be great.
• Wedding Videography - Honestly one of the better ones, the bits with all the characters different wedding ideas are fun, Elroy's whole encouraging White People gag if perfect, the cousin stuff is weird and it is very very season 6.
• Herstory of Dance - The one good season 4 episode somehow. The Abed plotline is really good and cute.

B

• Bonding and Beta Male Sexuality - Kind of mundane and boring, but I kinda like it, some of the Chang bits are cute, I like the ending with Duncan. Britta storyline is mean spirited by fine.
• App Development and Condiments - A real love it or hate it, I honestly go either way. On one hand it is coo-coo bananas on a level even community doesn't often get, but it does really commit to the bit. Meow Meow Beans is a weirdly good destructive set up, and the weird dystopian vibe is very fun.
• Paranormal Parentage - Like, okay, resolved plotlines from the last season in a fun way. The halloween party idea is cute. Pretty good.
• Basic Intergluteal Numistics - Oh yeah. The detective episode. Very season 5, but it's okay, the baseline idea isn't the best but it does okay with it.
• Intro to Recycled Cinema - Pretty good. No real need to rewatch it but it has some solid fake movie bits.
• Ladders - Gets points because of the mafia subplot. Season six in a bad way. (compate to Wedding Videography which is season 6 in a good way)
• Laws of Robotic and Party Rights - Another solid one. Kind of what I think of when the idea of a B Community Episode The robot concept is cute, I like that one parking lot they shot in.
• Repilot - A decent little re-introduction to the concept, solid idea, everyone kinda backsliding does make sense, even if it goes against their character arcs.
• Queer Studies and Advanced Waxing - Fine I guess, not like offensive or anything. I think most of the suplots work, theirs just nothing really standout about this episode. It's like 3 subplots without anything strong enough to hold a main plot.
• Intro to Knots - Not great, this is seaosn 4 after all, but a really good use of the new professor, the one time they really use him.
• Basic Crisis Room Decorum - Honestly kind of bad for most of it, but it does feature the fake Jeff yakuza joke, which is like top 1 gags in series. In a way it represents season 6, where the Dean is the best character.

C

• Analysis of Cork Based Networking - IDK it has the fat dog/bear down bit. That's kind of incredible.
• Introduction to Teaching - Uh, the part where Hickey traps Abed and forces him to look at ducks was cute.
• Economics of Whale Biology - Like most C's they are mostly ranked on the one part I remeber about them. I like the Pierce Jeff scene in the barbershop
• Conventions of Space and Time - Moderately annoying, but the Pierce buys Inspector Spacetime, and Annie pretends to be married plotlines are good
• Grifting 101 - I barely remember this one. In that way it embodies the C Rank
• Heroic Origins - Okay concept, solid execution, very season 4 but on the better side of that.
• GI Jeff - This might've been better if it was in an earlier season, but as a season 5 it's kind ajust mediocre. Jeff's whole arc feels more like an Abed arc than a Jeff arc, though those aren't as different as you might think. In general it lacks some grounding. This actual GI Joe jokes are cute.
• Intro to Felt Surogacy - Inoffensive
• Basic Story/Sandwhich - Hickey and Duncan have to go now their planet needs them. Man, the secret compute college was dumb.

D

• Basic Email Security - Oh the comedian one. Alright premise, okay execution, it's mostly just kind of awkward. Like we get it guys, this situation is complicated. It ends okay though. Not great though.
• History 101 - The hunger games parody is really half baked. I like the Abed going into sitcoms thing, that's cute.
• VCR Maitenance and Educational Publishing - Them literally trying to replace Troy is dumb. Kind of forgettable.
• Cooperative Escapism in Parental Relations - Well that resolved with a dud. Honestly it almost kinda works in a this guy wasn't worth obbsessing over angle, which is why it's not in F. But like how else are they gonna resolve this. In season 4

F

• Advanced Safety Features - Forgettable outside of Britta's parents whose suplot involving them is just kinda awkward.
• Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television - Man, not a great finale, but I guess thats the point tbh. The everyone imagining the future idea is cute I guess, but really really just six people standing in a room together.
• Advanced Documentary Filmmaking - Changnesia is dumb.
• Advanced Introduction to Finality - It just kinda, does not work
• Basic RV Repair and Palminstry - Annoying gimmick. Abed is at his weirdest written. The flashback thing just does not work, the giant thumb is a cute idea though. Really did not like this one.
• Alternative History of the German Invasion - The annoying german guys were such a bizzare idea and it just does not work.

Still, there is something worth watching in every episode. Even Finality has some okay gags involving the alternate counterparts, and RV Repair has some decent stuff in the beggingin and the giant thumb, so yeah give community a watch some time
